From Here to Eternity. Brother from Another Planet. Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Contact. A Star Is Born. Dog Day Afternoon. Midnight Cowboy. Easy Rider. Taxi Driver. Mean Streets. Apocalypse Now. Psycho.
Read in her sequence the list narrows and then lifts: it opens wide and cinematic, turns through the New Hollywood of the seventies, and ends underwater and then in orbit — finishing on 2001, which is also the year she painted it. Six feet of Los Angeles told in the only vocabulary the city really has.
