Confronting Orange

Acrylic on canvas, 24 × 30 inches

ABOUT THIS WORK

Confronting Orange is exactly what its title says — a fight, in a color. 24 × 30 inches, acrylic on canvas, painted in 1997/98. From Barbara Romain's abstract-expressionist body of work — large-scale, physically driven paintings where color-field passages are interrupted by gestural marks, the bodily presence of a painter working by feel and memory rather than by sight. It doesn't decorate a room. It changes the temperature.
