Her own front garden in Echo Park, painted the way a Los Angeles January actually looks.
An orange tree in fruit, bougainvillea over the fence, succulents along the path, and the steps up to her own front door. The title is the joke and the boast at once: while the rest of the country is in winter, this is what is happening outside her house.
She showed it five times in six years, more than almost anything else she painted — and kept it.
