Fishing For Compliments I

Three tall narrow canvases under one title, and a pun that only works if you know she spelled it both ways.
Fishing for Compliments — or Complements, as she wrote it once — runs across three panels, each four feet high and two feet wide. The lettering repeats and shifts across them: REGRET, REPRESENT, RESUME, REPEAT. The words are close enough to rhyme and far enough apart to mean different things, which is the joke and also the subject.
She painted them in 1998, in the Echo Park years, and treated them as one work every time she listed them.
