Her husband's poem is underneath. Dr. John is on top.
"The painting St. Louis Cemetery contains the text of the poem by that name written by my late husband C. Natale Peditto," Barbara Romain wrote, "inspired by his visit to the famous New Orleans site. That text is overlaid with the lyrics to 'Walk on Gilded Splinters,' a voodoo song by Dr. John."
Two men's words, one laid over the other, above a graveyard. She built these paintings the way a record is mixed — and here the bottom track is a poem by the poet she was married to.
Exhibited in Remember: An AIDS Memorial Retrospective, Orange County Center for Contemporary Art, Santa Ana, December 2018, where it was shown as St. Louis Cemetery.
